ROBERT MERRILL (JAMES JOSEPH MERRELL, CHARLES MERRILL, CAPTAIN BENJAMIN MERRILL and JEMIMA SMITH) was born 29 Sep 1827 in Georgia, and died 11 Mar 1907 in Bowden, Georgia. He married SARAH J. MIZE 11 Jun 1846 in Heard County, Georgia, daughter of ANDERSON MIZE and SALLY WOOD. She was born 04 May 1827 in Coweta County, Georgia, and died 01 Dec 1886 in Heard County, Georgia.
Notes for ROBERT MERRILL:
Robert lived on the Alabama/Georgia line in either Heard County, GA or Randolp County, AL and had a grist mill on Hillabahatchee Creek. The flood of April 22, 1883 washed it away and he lost his dauhgter Georgia Roop and her three children. See Atlanta Constitution News Articles.

... elected Sheriff of Randolph County as a Democrat in 1874, but after qualifying held office only about a month and a half. Bob had every prerequisite nature could give to make an efficient officer, but it did not suit a miller; grinding corn for toll was more congenial to him than serving papers and arresting persosns. He lives in Carroll County, Georgia having lived to see a large family grown, married, and settled to themselves.
1870 census shows household 1006 in District 21 of Randolph County, Alabama

1. Robert Merrill, Grantee of Carroll County, GA, bought from Daniel B. McCullough, Grantor of Carroll County, GA, on February 26, 1849 (deed was filed on March 29, 1853), 3 acres & 50 rods, for $50.00, Land Lot 66 in District 10, recorded in Warranty Deed Book G, Page 351.
2. Robert Merrill, Grantee of Carroll County, GA, bought from Appleton Mandeville, Grantor of Carroll County, GA, on December 19, 1853 (deed was filed on January 9, 1855), 202 1/2 acres, for $800.00, Land Lot 91 in District 10, recorded in Warranty Deed Book G, Page 620.
3. Robert Merrill, Grantor, of Randolph County, Alabama, sold the 202 1/2 acres listed in item # 2 above (Land Lot 91 in District 10) on October 16, 1856, recorded in Warranty Deed Book H, Page 356. I didn't write down the details of who he sold the property to, etc..
Ken Newman found in the 1852 Carroll County Tax Records that Anderson Mize owned Land Lot 103 in District 10, which is the adjoining northwest corner Land Lot to Robert Merrill's Land Lot 91 in District 10.
