JOSEPH B. MERRILL (ROBERT, JAMES JOSEPH MERRELL, CHARLES MERRILL, CAPTAIN BENJAMIN MERRILL and JEMIMA SMITH) was born 27 Oct 1854 in Alabama, and died 26 Aug 1899 in San Antonio, Texas.  He married MARY A. O. DOBSON, daughter of WALLACE DOBSON and CLERINDA LNU.  She was born Abt. 1846 in Alabama.

The remains of Mr. Joseph B. Merrill will arrive in Roanoke this afternoon from San Antonio, Texas, escorted by a Masonic committee.  The Masons and Knights of Pythias of Roanoke will take charge of the remains upon arrival at the depot.  The funeral party will proceed to Wedowee this evening or in the morning where the interment will occur with Masonic honors.  Mr. Merrill was a former citizen of this county and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him.  He was a brother-in-law of W.W. Dobson who went to Opelika today to meet the corpse.
