This Indenture made the twenty second day of December year one thousand Eight hundred and fifty six Rufus West of the County of Marshall and state of Alabama. Rufus West his wife of the first part and Willis Stephens of Marshall County and State of the second part, witnesseth the parties of the first part for and in consideration of fifty five dollars lawful Money of the United States to me in hand paid before the delivery hereof hath bargained do and by these presents doth grant and comes the party of the second party his heirs and assigns forever after certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in the county and State of Alabama which is known and described as follows to with the South West half of the SW 1/4 of SW Section (No.33) in Township No 6 of Range No 23 containing 20 acres and 8 1/2 hundreths together with all and singular tentements heredentiments and appertentances and all rent and interes of the said parties of the first part and the said parties of the first part doth hereby covenent and by said party of the second part that at the time of the sale hereof the said parties of the first part is the lawful owner of the premises above granted and seized thereof hold absoluto and that they will warrant and defend granted premises in the quiet deed peacible posession said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever.

Book 5, page 795. 5 March 1855. RUFUS WEST applies for letters of Guardianship for LORENZO POLSTON, NANCY POLSTON, ELIZABETH POLTON, SARAH J. POLSTON, JOSEPH POLSTON and MARGARETT POLSTON. He filed the certificate of ISAAC BRUNSTON, J. P. showing that L. D. POLSTON, NANCY POLSTON and ELIZABETH POLSTON had chosen him to be their guardian. WILLIAM MERRILL and Willis STEPHENS JR. are his sureties, and the statement is made that "all" of the children reside in Marshall Co.
Book 5, page 796 PETITION TO SELL LANDS.................said wards (same names as the six above) are each entitled to one eighth of one seventh of 640 acres known as BENJAMIN MERRILL'S RESERVATION, being the children of........POLSTON, wife of WILLIAM POLSTON and a daughter of said BENJAMIN MERRILL, dec'd. LORENZO POLSTON resides in Arkansas. (This seems to be a second recording of this petition.)
